What are the minimum criteria for me to be eligible for joining Sewa Sadan as Inmate? |

- To be a senior citizen (for both males / females).
- An averagely good health, you should be capable of taking care of your daily routine yourself.
- You should be free from any contagious disease.
- You should be strictly vegetarian , we do not use even garlic and onion in the meals.
- You should not be in the habit of consuming liquor / drugs / tobacco / gutkha/ smoking or any other kind of intoxicating material.

Yes, either husband or wife should be a senior citizen as this eventuality is likely due to age difference in husband and wife.

The admission is given without any consideration to caste, creed and religion.

What is the admission procedure? |

- You have to fill up and submit a prescribed Application Form with all necessary enclosures, which you can either collect personally from the Trust office or down - load from our web - site. This is available in the Brochure also.
- Personally meet the members of “Admission Committee” for pre-admission screening (In case of couples both husband and wife are required to come for the meeting).The time and date of meeting will be communicated well in advance by the Trust office.
- After the individual case is “cleared” for admission, you will be required to go in for some mandatory pathological tests and it is only after clearance from our medical expert that you shall be intimated to join the Sewa Sadan as an In-mate.

Can I bring in my house - hold belongings along with me? |

You need to bring items of your personal needs and personal clothing, every thing else is provided by the Sewa Sadan.

Can I get the food of my choice prepared in the Kitchen? |

In concurrence with the basic sprit of “Group Living” a common menu (which is reviewed on weekly basis) is prepared keeping in view the common taste and above all the health point of view of In-mates.

The food is normally served in the common Dining Room except in case of sickness of an inmate. Only the morning bed tea is served in Rooms.

Suitable arrangements have been made with reputed hospitals such as Jaswant Rai Speciality Hospital, Meerut for emergency medi - care where patients referred to by the Sadan are provided with medical care on top priority.

What are the normal health care facilities available? |

A Medical Inspection Room is provided in the Sadan premises only, where a Medical Expert is available on five days a week to take care of health needs of every in-mate.

What are the specialised medical services available? |

- A team of Medical Experts from Subharti Medical College, Meerut visits Sadan on every second and fourth Saturday for regular health check - up and consultancy.
- In addition to above, medical experts from various disciplines regularly visit Sadan premises for regular check-up and medical advise.

Available accommodation consists of well ventilated twin sharing rooms, both with attached toilets and non-attached toilets.

Keeping in view the basic health, safety and emergency attendance requirements ,the rooms are allotted on “Twin Sharing” basis as under:-
- Single in - mate, male / female has to share a room with out attached toilet with another male/female in - mate.
- Couples are allotted (subject to availability) rooms with attached toilets.

- All toilets attached to rooms are equipped with “European style” toilet facilities with 24 hrs. running hot and cold water and a ceiling fan.

- Washing machine and normal hand - washing arrangements are available.

Music System Entire premises of Sewa Sadan and all the rooms are equipped with speakers (volume controlled), attached to music channel system, playing instrumental music, bhajans, ghajals, etc.
Inter-com Facilities All Rooms are equipped with telephone instruments connected to EPABX exchange, enabling in-mates to talk to all other fellow in - mates and other workers on duty.
Incoming Calls All incoming calls for you on 0121 - 4026012 and 2622150 are transferable to your room directly.

What if I have an emergency and need to talk to the staff for help? |

An emergency Call System on your telephone instrument enables you to make an immediate contact with the security staff on duty even if you don’t remember the extension number or are not in a position to speak. All you have to do is to “Hold” the “Receiver” to your ears for 03 secs. and your extension no. and “bell”, both are flashed to the security on duty who would come in action without wasting any time.

What are the In-Room arrangements for storage/ safety of my personal belongings? |

Every room is provided with a personal cup-board (with locker) and an additional over head locker where you can store and keep your personal belongings. The beds in rooms are with a box arrangement ensuring an extra storage space.

What are the cleaning and house keeping arrangements available? |

Cleaning Staff of Sadan carries out dry and wet cleaning of the Rooms and Toilets once every day and the doors windows, fans, etc. are cleaned on regular intervals by them. The cleaning of building lobby, corridors and other area of common use is carried out as per need but at least once every day. However, in - mates are expected to do the dusting of furniture in their rooms and keep room neat, clean and tidy, including their personal belongings and items of common use which they share with the second in - mate in the room, for which duster is provided in the room.

Is serving of milk at Bed-time included in the Kitchen Menu? |

No. However, the in - mates can be served milk as per their choice against coupons available from the office.

Is there any provision for providing temporary accommodation, food, etc to my visitor / guest? |

Sadan Management doesn’t promote the visitors/guests staying in the Sadan. However when the visitors are from a distant place and have come with the sole purpose of meeting the inmate, with no alternate arrangement to stay, in which case the Warden may, as per his own Wisdom, consider allowing accommodation for a maximum of one day. The charges for one day stay (24 hrs) will be Rs. 500/- per person per day including meals as per Sadan fixed Menu.

A common Living Room with a TV, Magazines, News Papers, Books and Indoor Games is provided where in-mates can enjoy with other in-mates and have get together and pass their time leisurely.

Can I go out of the Sadan off and on to meet my friends and relatives? |

Yes. There are no restrictions; you can leave Sadan premises for few hours or few days (after prior intimation to the Sadan Management). However, if you are leaving for a period longer than 30 days then in that case you must inform the manager accordingly.

Am I permitted to meet my guest / visitors in my Room only? |

You can meet your guest / visitor at the following specified areas, ear - marked for the purpose: -
- Lobby on the ground floor.
- Lobby on the First - Floor.
- In the Inner - lawns (In winter only); chairs will be arranged in lawn if desired.
- The basic purpose of above arrangement is to avoid disturbance and in- onvenience to fellow inmates.

What if I am sick and unable to walk to the Lobby to meet my guest / visitor? |

Normally the guest / visitor is restrained from meeting ailing inmate in order to avoid inconvenience to them as well as the other fellow inmates. However, every such case will be evaluated and assessed on individual merits and the warden will take suitable decision in the matter.

Yes, you can order for Tea for your guests against coupons any time during specified visiting hours only except between 11:30.a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in pre lunch session and not later than 5:00 p.m. in winters and 6:00 p.m. in summers.

Is there any provision to provide Air - conditioner in the Rooms? |

Provision for Air - cooler is already there with no extra charges. However the use of AC is not normally permissible, as installation of AC requires a series of formalities and extra cost burden due to heavy excess load and consumption charges. So installation of AC by inmates at their cost is permissible only after clearance from the Trust and in - mates being agreeable to bear the cost of such formalities and extra electricity consumption.

What is the provision in case an item / article or any other facilities provided to in - mate is either damaged / broken or lost due to carelessness or negligence on part of the in - mate? |

It is expected that all will make careful use and handling of such item / article and facilities. However, in case of an unfortunate happening, it will be a very painful duty on the part of the Sadan to recover the cost of such item from the concerned person. The replacement cost of particular article will be decided on straight - line depreciation method, with rate of depreciation at 10% per annum, starting from second year of purchase of such item.

In winter we have a facility of Solar Water Heater. This facility is provided to all attached and non-attached Bathrooms.

Yes, In addition to normal volunteer activities such as helping in gardening and other such light activities, daily yoga is practiced by all in - mates under supervision of yoga instructor.

A library is being established in the Sadan with books and magazines of general reading on various subjects including the ones mentioned above.

At present Sixty Two Senior Citizen can stay and enjoy their life at the Sadan. The capacity of the Sadan is proposed to be increased to accommodate 100 senior citizens as and when the necessity arises.

In case of serious illness of any inmate, what care will be taken by the Sadan? |

The Sadan administration will admit the inmate in Govt. Hospital or Medical College at Meerut as per advice of the Doctor. The Sadan has its own Ambulance to carry the ailing inmate to the Hospital. Moreover, some private hospitals have also extended support for first aid treatment to inmates of Sewa Sadan in acute emergency.
